Spring Concert

This year Hrishika took part in her school band. As part of the beginner band, she chose to play flute. So her dad purchased her a new flute. It was quite expensive. I never knew that flutes were so expensive. Anyways, she put it to great use. Mrs. Kolber was their music teacher. She did a wonderful job of teaching them.

At the end of the school year we got to enjoy a concert by the Evergreen Elementary Music students comprising of students from Matsumoto and Evergreen schools. The beginning bands performed a total of 13 songs followed by 10 songs by the intermediate band. Though some of the songs chosen were quite simple, they did a superb job. It was melodious. Here's the list of songs we enjoyed.

Willy Wonka Musical

As part of the after school program and as a fund raiser for the school, Hrishika took part in the musical "Willy Wonka" by Starting Arts. The play is based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. They met for twice a week for about 3 months to learn and practice. We got to enjoy the play on the 14th of April. Here's a word from the director about the play.

The play was divided into 2 Acts with a total of 20 scenes. Hrishika played the roles of a Candy Kid and Oompa Loompa.

The musical was great. All the kids did a great job. Bravo!!!

School House Rock

This year Hrishika got to take part in a musical, "School House Rock". PTA hired Starting Arts, an outside company to help with the musical. Basically Starting Arts asked for 100 kids in total, so they could divide them up into 2 groups of 50 each. Each group was further divided into four sub groups (A, B, C & D). Only around 70 kids signed up for the play, however. That meant there was only one group. What that translated into was more kids in each sub-group and kids had to perform in four shows instead of just two. So Hrishika was in Group C. Each group had to learn two songs plus a third song which all the groups had to perform. Hrishika enjoyed learning and performing. It was a fun experience overall.
